Saint Meera Bai –Life, Devotion, and Journey
🪔 Birth and Childhood of Meera Bai 🪔
Meera Bai was born around 1498 in Kudki, Pali district of Rajasthan. Her father, Ratan Singh Rathore,
was a noble of Merta.
From childhood, Meera had a gentle heart, was sensitive, and deeply spiritual.
🏵️ Divine Gift in Childhood 🏵️
It is said that a sage gifted her an idol of Lord Krishna during her early years.
From that moment, Meera considered Krishna as her master, friend, and life companion.
🌻 Playful Devotion 🌻
Little Meera would talk to Krishna and dance before Him in play.
She sang bhajans in front of Him and always called Him her husband.
🌺 Marriage and Renunciation 🌺
Meera Bai was married to Prince Bhojraj of Mewar, son of Rana Sanga.
Yet her heart was not attached to worldly pleasures.
🏵️ Life After Marriage 🏵️
Even after marriage, she stayed away from royal life and immersed herself in devotion to Krishna.
She would spend time with saints, attend satsangs, and did not follow palace rules, which displeased the
royal family.
🌻 Opposition and Attempts on Her Life 🌻
After her husband’s death, Meera faced more challenges.
People tried to make her abandon Krishna devotion. Poison was given to her, snakes were sent, and she
was repeatedly insulted.
🌺 Divine Protection 🌺
Every time, Krishna’s grace protected her.
The poison turned into nectar, and the snakes became sacred Shaligrams.
Her faith remained unshaken.
🌺 Devotional Songs and Love for Krishna 🌺
Meera Bai composed hundreds of bhajans that are sung across India even today.
Some famous lines include:
“My only Girdhar Gopal, none else do I have”
“I have found the treasure of Lord Ram”
“Keep me as your servant, O Lord”
🌷 Unique Features of Meera’s Devotion 🌷
Her devotion transcended caste and social divisions.
It was beyond gender distinctions.
Her love and surrender were the essence of her bhakti.
🌻 Pilgrimage and Vrindavan 🌻
Free from palace restrictions, Meera left her home.
She traveled to holy places like Vrindavan, Dwarka, and Mathura.
In Vrindavan, when saints came to meet her, she said,
“I am a servant of Girdhar, I wish to meet no one else.”
🏵️ Divine Leela in Dwarka 🏵️
Eventually, Meera reached Dwarka and sang bhajans in the Krishna temple.
It is said that one day, while singing in front of the idol, she became absorbed in it and merged into the
deity.
Her body was no longer visible, representing the ultimate state of devotion.
🪔 Divine Message for Society 🪔
Meera Bai’s devotion teaches us:
True love is greater than societal restrictions.
There is no fear, greed, or show in devotion to God.
Women too can attain the highest place in divine love.
