The word “Dig” means direction and “Pal” means protector, so Dikpal means Guardians of all directions.
You may have heard about them in the Hanuman Chalisa, for example:
👉 “Jam Kubera Dikpal Jaha Te”
👉 “Kavi Kobid Kahi Sake Kaha Te”
This is also mentioned in the Ramcharitmanas, showing their divine importance.
The Dikpal are the rulers of the ten directions. They protect the universe, maintain balance, and ensure spiritual harmony. They are also invoked during puja and havan rituals for blessings and success in all directions.
East – Indra
West – Varuna
North – Kubera
South – Yama
Northeast – Lord Shiva
Southwest – Goddess (Devi)
Northwest – Vayu (Wind God)
Between North & East – Brahma
Southeast – Agni (Fire God)
Between West & Southwest – Ananta
Ravana was a very powerful king. Before the birth of his son Indrajit, he tried to control all planets to make his son immortal.
In the Sundara Kanda, when Hanuman entered Lanka, all beings in Ravana’s court silently bowed to him and prayed for liberation. Hanumanji assured them that they would soon be freed.
The Dikpal represent protection, balance, and divine energy in all directions. They are worshipped to bring stability, success, and harmony in life.
The Dikpal (Guardians of Directions) teach us that divine power exists in every direction of the universe, maintaining balance and order in creation.
