King Bali- The Immortal Symbol of Charity and Devotion

King Bali: bowing before Lord Vamana in devotion
King Bali - One of the Seven Immortals (Immortal)🙏🏿

The Glory and Charity of King Bali💥

🪔 In ancient times, King Bali was the great emperor of the Asuras.

🪔 He was the son of Virochana and the grandson of Prahlad.

🪔 Though born in the Asura lineage, King Bali was known as a symbol of truth, generosity,

       righteousness, compassion, and devotion.

🪔 During his rule, there were no poor people and no one suffered any pain.

🪔 Because of this, the people considered him like a father.

🪔 The citizens were very happy with him.

🪔 Through his penance, valor, and virtues, he gained control over all three worlds – Earth,

      Heaven, and the Netherworld (Patala).

The Concern of the Gods💥

🪔 King Bali was extremely generous.

🪔 No seeker ever returned empty-handed from his court.

🪔 Because of his charity, the gods became worried,

🪔 as Indra and all the gods lost their place in Heaven.

🪔 Then the gods prayed to Lord Vishnu.

🪔 “O Lord! King Bali is righteous, but the balance of the three worlds has been disturbed.

🪔 Please find a solution.”

🪔 Lord Vishnu promised to protect righteousness,

🪔 not by force, but through wisdom and divine play (leela).

Vamana Avatar and the Gift of Three Steps of Land💥

🪔 Lord Vishnu took the Vamana Avatar,

🪔 appearing as a small, radiant Brahmin boy.

🪔 At that time, King Bali was performing a Yajna (sacrifice).

🪔 Vamana reached the place of sacrifice and spoke gently-

🪔 “O King! Please give me three steps of land as charity.”

🪔 Guru Shukracharya recognized that this Brahmin was Lord Vishnu Himself,

🪔 and warned King Bali.

🪔 But King Bali said-

🪔 “It is a sin for a king to withdraw from charity,

🪔 even if the one asking is Lord Vishnu Himself.”

🪔 King Bali took water in his hand and pledged to donate three steps of land.

🪔 With great love, King Bali offered everything to Vamana.

🪔 His heart filled with devotion, and he remembered his grandfather Prahlad,

🪔 thinking how many hardships Prahlad had endured,

🪔 while he himself was facing none.

🪔 Guru Shukracharya repeatedly tried to stop him, saying this was Vishnu’s trick,

🪔 but King Bali did not listen.

Measuring the Sky and the Netherworld 💥

🪔 Lord Vamana then expanded into the giant Trivikrama form.

🪔 With the first step, He measured the entire Earth.

🪔 With the second step, He measured the sky and Heaven.

🪔 Now, no space was left for the third step.

Lord Vishnu Asks King Bali 💥

🪔 Lord Vishnu asked-

🪔 “O King! Where shall I place the third step?”

🪔 “You pledged three steps of land,

🪔 but the promise is still incomplete.”

🪔 “Because of unfulfilled truth,

🪔 you may have to suffer in the underworld.”

The Complete Surrender of King Bali 💥

🪔 Hearing this, King Bali became calm and peaceful.

🪔 He humbly bowed his head and said-

🪔 “O Lord, please place the third step on my head.”

🪔 Seeing this devotion and surrender, Lord Vishnu became very pleased.

🪔 The Lord accepted defeat before His devotee

🪔 and became King Bali’s gatekeeper.

🪔 Thus, God Himself came under the devotion of King Bali.

Lord Vishnu’s Blessings and the Boon of Immortality 💥

🪔 Lord Vishnu placed His third step on King Bali’s head

🪔 and sent him to Patala Loka (Netherworld).

🪔 Pleased with his devotion and truth, the Lord granted him a boon-

🪔 “You will be immortal,

🪔 and once every year, you may visit Earth to meet your people.”

🪔 King Bali said-

🪔 “Lord, this Earth now belongs to You.

🪔 I will go to Patala, and You become my gatekeeper.”

🪔 Lord Vishnu accepted and said-

🪔 “Bali, you will rule Patala forever,

🪔 and I Myself will stand as your gatekeeper.”

🪔 This glorious devotion of King Bali

🪔 is described by Shukadev Ji in the Shrimad Bhagavat Purana.

Summary 💥

🪔 Charity and truth are the greatest forms of dharma.

🪔 Not ego, but sacrifice and surrender make one great.

🪔 God is pleased by devotion, whether it comes from a god or an asura.

The Connection of King Bali with Kerala’s Onam Festival💥

🪔 Even today, Onam festival in Kerala is celebrated in memory of King Bali.

🪔 It is believed that Lord Vishnu allowed King Bali

🪔 to visit his people once every year.

🪔 Because of this joy, Onam is celebrated annually in Kerala.

🪔 People believe that King Bali visits Kerala on Onam.

🪔 On this day, homes are decorated,

🪔 flower rangolis are made,

🪔 and happiness is celebrated in honor of King Bali.
