Shiv Tandav Stotra Ravana

Ravana reciting Shiv Tandav Stotra in deep devotion before Lord Shiva

🪷Shiva Tandav Stotra 🪔

Once, Ravana, in his pride, tried to lift Mount Kailash along with Lord Shiva and Parvati. In

response, Lord Shiva pressed the mountain down with his toe, and Ravana’s hand got trapped

 under it.

To seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva, Ravana praised Him by reciting the Shiv Tandav Stotra.

Pleased by his devotion, Lord Shiva forgave Ravana and granted him a boon.

Shiva Tandava Stotram

🪔1  Pure streams flow from Shiva’s matted hair
Sacred ground becomes holy by those waters

   Serpents hang around His neck
Forming a tall and shining garland

With the sound “damad damad” of His drum
Lord Shiva performs the fierce Tandava dance

🪔2 From His shaking matted hair

Celestial rivers rush down

Waves move freely and beautifully
Decorating His radiant head

Fire blazes on His wide forehead
The crescent moon rests there forever

🪔3 Parvati, daughter of the mountain king

Is His loving companion

Joy spreads in all directions
His mind stays calm and blissful

With His merciful glance
He protects devotees from great danger

🪔4 Serpents shine with gem-like glow

Wrapped around His matted hair

Faces of the directions glow
Smeared with saffron and divine colors

The Lord of all beings
Fills the mind with divine joy

🪔5 Flowers from the crowns of gods

Cover His sacred feet with dust

Serpent king forms His garland
Matted locks tied beautifully

May Lord Shiva
Bless us with eternal prosperity

🪔6 Flames rise from His burning forehead

Where desire itself is destroyed

He bows even gods before Him
Holding the nectar of immortality

The skull-adorned Lord
May protect us always

🪔7 Fire blazes fiercely on His forehead

Burning the god of desire

Parvati’s beauty reflects in Him
The three-eyed Lord fills my heart with love

🪔8 Dark clouds surround His neck

Like the deep night of new moon

Celestial river flows from His hair
The bearer of the world shines with glory

🪔9 Blue lotus-like beauty surrounds Him

Darkness shines like divine light

Destroyer of desire and ego
Destroyer of time and death

I worship the Lord
Who removes all fear

🪔10 Source of all auspicious qualities

Ocean of sweetness and joy

Destroyer of pride and ignorance
Ender of evil and sorrow

I worship the Lord
Who destroys death itself

🪔11 The powerful dance shakes the universe

Serpents breathe heavily

Fire erupts from His forehead
The Tandava sound spreads everywhere

Victory to Lord Shiva
The fierce cosmic dancer

🪔12 Equal vision to friend and enemy

To gold and stone alike

Lotus eyes see all the same
When will I worship eternal Shiva?

🪔13 Living near sacred waterfalls

Free from impure thoughts

Holding folded hands on my head
Chanting “Shiva” always

When will I become truly happy?

🪔14 Whoever chants this supreme hymn

With pure devotion

Attains purity of soul
And devotion to the Guru

Meditation on Shiva
Liberates all beings

🪔15 This hymn sung by Ravana

Grants wealth, strength and success

By the grace of Lord Shiva
